The absence of fear leads to extinction
I heard something yesterday that I thought was interesting and worth exploring.
“The absence of fear leads to extinction” ie: you need fear in order to progress and evolve.
Fear has a negative connotation but just thinking on that point a bit a think it is very true. There is also a saying that decisions are either made out of love or fear, and decisions should be made out of love and not fear. Choose love they say. Obviously I agree in principal with this ie: don’t choose a shitty job that pays well because you are scared of running out of money, or don’t choose an average partner because you are afraid of being alone etc. but similarly, you should train for a run because you are terrified of the scenario if you don’t. Run becuase you love running, but you should also be afraid of larger than normal challenges and that should encourage you to adapt.
So perhaps the decision is in the size of the challenge, or the size of the decision?
My position: When things are done out of love, they are easier to maintain over a longer term whilst out of fear they are short term goals and objectives, but fear is important (and often healthy) factor to move us more abruptly toward a solution and therefore, I’d agree, the absence of fear will lead to extinction in the longer run.
