Publish one piece of digital content per day

Start: 20 Feb - 19 April 2024

Why

Before this site, I’d been running these micro experiments on myself for some time. For the ones that had a positive impact, friends would try them too. After sharing to a friend that I may start documenting this more formally, he (thanks Sam Biggs) decided to gift me a new experiment.

‘Post one piece of digital content everyday for 2 months’. So here we are!

I fully believe that it’s impossible to convince anyone of anything by any other means than 'by example’. When we do things by example, people decide whether to attempt it themselves simply by proof that it can be done - “He did it, so can I”, “We’re similar, it worked for him, it can work for me“. This principle is the founding rationale for the ‘Experiments’ section of the site.

While I do personally post on social media, you will seldom see my face and you certainly won’t see a video. Why? Embarrassment, time, I don’t care, don’t have anything to comment. The list goes on!

So, whilst it still might not be a video, I plan to post some form of digital content every day for 2 months.

Hypothesis

Hypothesis 1: Posting one piece of content a day will organically increase my followership on social channels [Says the Diary of a CEO, let’s test it]

Hypothesis 2: Posting one piece of digital content per day will increase my confidence in sharing my personal expertise.

Other potential positive outcomes:

  1. Improve my ability to share concise, valuable material and opinions. And people might gain some benefit too.

  2. Improve my skills when it comes to content creation and editing (Video, image, text) and social media marketing. It does pose a huge opportunity to learn more about this industry.

  3. Increased creativity by thinking of new themes, angles, ideas and perspectives.

  4. It may narrow down what I decide to consume. Ie: Read more Economist rather than Instagram.

Potential negative outcomes:

  1. Reduced personal time.

  2. Over obsession with digital following stats and material consumption.

  3. Sharing crap for the sake of it.

Approach

It makes sense to keep the content within the sphere of Splor.io and to create and post material that is actually valuable. I will need to setup a ‘blog’ page on this site where more general ‘bite-size’ content can be shared. I’ll also try to create more content related to my work and company, this seems like the low hanging fruit initially.

But in order to stick to the ‘Hypothesis’, I will try post material that expresses my view and opinion on information I have consumed, and which could be valuable to others.

Channels:

  1. LinkedIn [Personal, work, Splor]

  2. Website [Splor]

  3. Instagram [Splor]

  4. X [Splor]

  5. YouTube

Updates:

Every week i’ll report the stats here together with the content links and some impact it has had on me that week. I guess we’ll have more frequent posts on the various channels about this too.
